This had to be one of the hottest venues I've been to and the sweat-drenched bodies squashed together made the atmosphere uncomfortable but, despite the heat, this had to be one of the msot enjoyable gigs I've been to. Simple Plan are almost always described as 'a punk boy band for teenage moshers' but they just don't give a damn. These guys really know how to entertain and get everyone excited. They rush into Shut Up and Jump from platinum selling second album 'Still Not Getting Any' (but they definitely ARE getting some!). Pierre threw water over the crowd in between songs and joked to everyone about how David (known as 'the Canadian Cutie' to most fans) smelt in such sweaty conditions, so there were plenty of screams. There were the usual cheeky onstage antics and even a drum performance from David, taking over Chuck's duties for a few minutes. Surprise cover versions sung were Happy Together (originally a hit in the 1960s for a band called The Turtles!) and a version of 50 Cent's P.I.M.P?! On leaving the stage, they came back and did The Darkness's hit I Believe in the Thing Called Love. The crowd chanted, then Pierre came back on his own for the encore to sing an acoustic solo of Perfect, only for the other four to join him for the rest of the song. It was just awesome. David had changed into a pink Green Day t-shirt, given to him by twin sisters from England who are big Simple Plan fans and had travelled especially for the gig!
